The lines from the nose to corners of the mouth are treated with dermal filler to replace lost volume in this area. This rejuvenates the lower face to reverse signs of ageing.
The lines from the side of the mouth down to the chin caused by volume loss in the lower half of the face are treated with dermal filler. This refreshes the lower face, reducing shadowing and lines and reversing signs of ageing.
Contouring the cheeks with dermal filler can enhance the face’s natural shape and beauty, but also replace lost volume to naturally lift and regain a youthful look.
Contouring the chin can help to balance out and enhance your profile in a natural, subtle way. This can boost your natural appearance and improve signs of ageing.
With age the bones and soft tissue of the face naturally lose volume and definition.
Dermal filler replaces this volume to give a natural, enhanced look.
Dermal fillers are made of Hyaluronic Acid. Hyaluronic Acid is naturally occurring substance that boosts, volumises and hydrates the skin.
Replacing the lost volume with dermal filler treatment re invigorates that youthful look.

A. Derma fillers are a gel like substance made up of Hyaluronic Acid. Hyaluronic Acid is a naturally occurring substance and naturally diminishes with age. The filler can be used in targeted areas of the face to replace volume loss to reverse signs of ageing or contour the face to enhance the natural look.
At Aesthetics by Dr Katherine, York a bespoke treatment plan is always formulated for each patient. We will discuss your desired outcomes and agree on a plan. Dermal filler varies in thickness depending on which area is being treated and so it is important we fully discuss your targeted look in order to use the most safe and appropriate form of filler.
With age the production of Hyaluronic Acid naturally diminishes. Alongside this there is a reduction in volume of bone, tissue and fat pads. Dermal fillers are injected in a targeted anatomical area to replace this volume. This can reverse signs of ageing, contour the face and reduce fine lines and wrinkles.
One treatment per area is required. Aesthetics by Dr Katherine, York always offers a two week follow up appointment in case any top ups are required.
The treatment lasts 6-12 months when repeat treatments are recommended.
The effects of treatment can be seen immediately. It is normal to have some swelling in the area which will settle over a few days. Full effects are seen at two weeks.
After two weeks when the treatment has settled there is an optional review appointment where any additional ‘top-ups’ required are carried out.
Dermal filler can last from 6-12 months, after which maintenance treatment is advised. This is a reversible treatment and so if required can be dissolved.
As always at Aesthetics by Dr Katherine, York on arrival we will discuss your treatment goals and desired outcomes to formulate a treatment plan. You will need to complete medical and consent forms, if not already done. Please note that dermal filler treatment is effective, but is limited, and so may not be suitable for all patients.
Once the forms are completed and we have a treatment plan in place photos will be taken. These are mandatory photos taken pre-treatment and will be stored confidentially with your medical records.
After applying numbing/local anaesthetic cream your face will be cleaned and injection sites marked out before starting the dermal filler treatment.
Dermal fillers can be more uncomfortable than anti-wrinkle injections and so a topical anaesthetic is used prior to treatment to numb the skin and reduce discomfort.
As your face has been injected it is very normal to have some small red lumps at the injection sites. These should settle in approx. 1 hour. Bruising may occur, but this tends to be minimal and easily covered.
At Aesthetics by Dr Katherine, York it is advised that you sit up for one hour after your treatment to prevent any unwanted spread or movement of the dermal filler.
It is advised against consuming alcohol, intense exercise, make up and hot environments such as showers or gyms for 24 hours after your treatment. This is to reduce the risk of migration, infection and bruising.

Straight away there will be some swelling to the area injected. This is very common and improves after a few days. Applying ice to the area at home can help this.
Within the first two weeks lumps of filler can be felt, again this is very common and normally settle with time. On some occasions these do not settle and so dissolving is required before repeating the treatment.
On very rare occasions the filler can be injected into or next to an artery causing it to block. The immediate signs of this is skin discolouration, itching and pain. If this occurs dissolving the filler is required. A full anatomical assessment of the face is always required prior to treatment to prevent this. This is always carried out at Aesthetics by Dr Katherine, York.
