Excessive Sweating / Hyperhidrosis Treatment in York

A. Anti-wrinkle injections are prescribed injectables injected into targeted areas. In this case the sweat glands are targeted to prevent sweating.

A. Anti-wrinkle treatment is made up of a neurotoxin made by the bacteria Clostridium Botulinum. Botulinum toxin Type A is a prescribed drug used in low doses in aesthetics. It works by blocking the messages between the nerves and sweat glands to prevent excess sweating.

A. Two treatments are required 1 month apart for optimal results. Maintenance treatments are advised at 6 months.

A. The effects can be felt from as little as one to two weeks.

A. The treatment lasts up to 6 months. Maintenance treatments may be required at this point.

A. As always at Aesthetics by Dr Katherine, York on arrival we will discuss your treatment goals and desired outcomes to formulate a treatment plan. You will need to complete medical and consent forms, if not already done. Please note that anti-wrinkle treatment is effective, but is limited, and so may not be suitable for all patients.

Once the forms are completed and a treatment plan is in place photos will be taken. These are mandatory photos taken pre-treatment and will be stored confidentially with your medical records.

Your armpits will then be cleaned and injection sites marked out before starting your treatment.

A. As your skin has been injected it is very normal to have some small red lumps at the injection sites. These should settle in approx. 1 hour. Bruising may occur, but this tends to be minimal and easily covered.

At Aesthetics by Dr Katherine, York it is advised not to drink alcohol, wear make-up or use hot environments such as showers or gyms for 24 hours after your treatment. This is to reduce risk of infection and bruising.

Once the treatment has settled there is an optional review appointment where any ‘top-ups’ required can be considered.

A. You CANNOT have anti-wrinkle treatment if:

• You have had a previous allergic reaction to Botulinum Toxin
• You are under 18 years old
• You are pregnant or breast feeding
• You have some neurological diseases such as Myasthenia Gravis, ALS, Eaton-Lambert Syndrome
• You are on certain medication eg some antibiotics and some blood thinners
• You have an infection including cold sores/skin issues
• You have had Botulinum treatment in the last 3 months
• You are unwell
• You have wrinkles that are unlikely to respond to the treatment

A. You will start to notice a reduction in sweating immediately after treatment with full effect by 2 weeks.

A. Common treatment areas include the underarms (axillary hyperhidrosis), hands (palmar hyperhidrosis), feet (plantar hyperhidrosis), and face. The injections can target these areas to effectively reduce sweat production.
